To test the setup and installation of my new Revolution rotary unit I mounted a rectangular piece 1.25 x 1.35 x 11 inches. Using the rotary option in my Vectric software I set the project up to simply round the spindle using the Rounding Gadget toolpath with the target diameter 1.25. I used the MASSO Wrap Y2A PP with Z zero at cylinder axis. The work piece homing was easy enough except that the Y axis was at the center of the work piece while Vectric XY Datum was left front corner. To resolve this I used a -1.964 (1.35/2) to recenter the datum position and used a 0.25 EM bit. The carve went well except the final diameter was 1.16 rather than 1.25. Has anyone else seen a Z cut about 0.1 inch deeper than expected?

Correction: The -1.964 was half of the unwrapped Y value NOT 1.35/2

So I checked my practice rounding toolpath pieces. They were supposed to be 3" in diameter.
They actually measure 3.1145 " in diameter.
I did use the tool probe block for the Z height.
Maybe there’s a calibration for the probe that can be adjusted? Or it’s leaving a finishing pass allowance? I’m not sure

So… how are you controlling the dust collection?

Word to the wise, never leave a chuck key in a chuck when you finished.
Bad things can happen.

This was my first run. Have not addressed dust collection on the rotary yet. It looks as if 1F may have a new option that could work on the Rotary. Now that I know the Revolution actually works I will begin researching.

I have done some more test runs. The Z is consistently 0.09 too deep. I was thinking of changing the offset but will do a measurement from the center point (using a pointed router bit) to the surface of the touch-off platform.

Not the correct way but an easy work around would be be to use the touch-off plate to set Z zero,
then manually set Z zero off the touch off plate with a .09 feeler gauge, then reset zero

I use G57 coordinate for my rotary, this exercise only has to be done once in my experience.

Could you guys explain the process you use for G code co-ordinate? I’m not an expert with how you use those settings.
Thanks

The measured off-set is 0.045 inches greater than that stated in the instructions. That difference would account for the 0.09 diameter difference. Likely manufacturing variances. I adjusted my off-set to accommodate.
