I wanted a bit storage system that allowed for flexible storage – if you get a new bit/lose a bit a tray that could grow or shrink as your collection changes, without having to move all the bits around. Also to store them in original cases for details/vendor info. Also have an area for bits that are used for current job, I bought extra collets/nuts so I can set up to 4 bits and have them ready for bit swap. Would work great with rapidchange Solo - please Redline support this soon!. Storage for collets/nuts/wrenches. I combined a cnc’d mdf tray with 3d printed dividers that hook onto a rail and slide as needed as collection changes. Working well so far.

Excellent solution. The problem with vertical storage (holes in a block) is the limitation on expandability/mismatch between hole diameter & new but shanks and you lose the info on the box. But it does make for a smaller footprint for but storage.

A tray is a larger footprint but better flexibility the way you’ve designed yours. Maybe I just need to make a shallow drawer and use a tray like yours.

Yes, I did not want vertical storage as drawer would have to be deeper. Glad you like it and let me know if you can improve on it.

This is my storage setup for my most frequently used bits. Close at hand in their original storage tubes. The caps are press-fit into the corian base, and the clear tops pull off easily.

… and this is my drawer of shame! 😂
I think I need one of these storage trays to clean this mess up.
