Hi everyone, I need some help. When I’m trying to home my machine the Z axis goes all the way up and keeps trying to continue up making a horrible sound until it self trips the e stop. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to set everything back to mm’s and home the machine? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Make sure your z values are negative.Z0 should be at your max up range. Anything else should be a negative.

Adjust stall homing:

> (this does not apply to elite machines) You may need to adjust stall homing from time to time during the life of the machine. CLIMATE OF MACHINE: Changes in the environment, seasonal changes, static electricity, expansion and contraction,(cold in the morning, hot in the evening). etc. can have an affect on the stall homing. Expect to adjust this during the change from hot to cold and cold to hot seasons or just a unheated shop in the morning to a heated shop when you work in it. If you are …

I had to adjust stall homing several times since upgrading to the Z-20. It seemed like either the stall current was just barely too high or slightly too low. When too high it would ‘bang’ a few times until it finally found home. When too low it would sometimes not go all the way up and say home was lower than it should be. Often the difference was if it was at room temp before being used it would work and then after a long cut it wouldn’t.

So I added a proximity limit switch for homing. It wasn’t hard. I wish I had done it sooner as it just works. Plus it’s smoother and quieter when it homes. It just goes up and when it trips the switch it homes. The switches have lights on them so setting them up is very simple (but you do need to supply them with power).

what proximity switches did you use for this? I would love to change out from stall homing to limit switches. can you provide details for the work that was required to do this? or a link to a post that you followed?

I used these [proximity switches](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCMWDJ85?tag=benmyers-20). I wired them up to mechanical relay switches. The proximity switches have lights on them that makes setting them up easy. I used the relays because it added a 100% on or off into the circuit. Plus I like to hear the click when it’s homing. Usually I’m getting things ready while it’s homing so I’m not looking to see if it’s homing correctly.
