Same here. I’m also looking into J-Tech lasers and would really like to hear from people who have used them. Any advice on a good model for a beginner?
Lasering wood converts it into vapors that can quickly fill a small shop with a smelly haze that may be hazardous to inhale, depending on the wood species and what kind of finish is applied. I started out with a 14W JTech attached to my cnc and running it with the garage door wide open and a fan to help circulate the fumes out- adequate at best. Now I run a 48W laser on JTech’s Titan machine- much faster vs the 1F and controlled directly from Lightburn. I built a custom enclosure for it using aluminum t-slot extrusion and thin acrylic panels. An inline 4" ducted blower vents the enclosure out through a window. It’s effective but I can still smell it if I do any prolonged cutting at 100% power.
can the laser always be attached to the machine?
or do you have to take it on and off when cutting other stuff
I take my laser off when I carve, so that I can attach my dust boot. I also get a much better view of what the spindle is doing. I wouldn’t be comfortable running a carve with the laser attached. I leave my laser permanently attached to the JTech mount, so it’s just a matter of running in four bolts and I’m ready to laser cut. It takes about 3 minutes to attach or remove the dust boot and laser
