I am running into an issue with soft limits and am hoping someone can help identify what I am missing.

My file size is set to:

- X = 47.75"

- Y = 31.875"

The toolpath is a simple profile toolpath set to machine **On the Line**. Based on the size and location of the vector, I should be well within the machine’s travel limits.

However, when I attempt to run the job, I receive the following error:

**“-606.425 mm less than Minimum Soft Limit”**

A few details about my setup:

- Machine: Onefinity Journeyman X-50

- Controller: Buildbotics (BB) Controller

- Software: Vectric VCarve Pro v11.5

- Units: Imperial (inches)

- Toolpath Type: Profile Toolpath

- Cut Position: On the Vector Line

To rule out a toolpath offset issue, I confirmed that the toolpath is set to cut directly on the vector and not to the inside or outside of the line. The preview also appears correct.

What is confusing me is that the machine should not be approaching a soft limit when cutting directly on the vector. I could understand the error if the toolpath were offset outside the boundary, but that is not the case.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue with VCarve and the BB controller? Is there a machine coordinate, work offset, post processor, or soft limit setting that could be causing the controller to think the toolpath extends 606.425 mm beyond the minimum travel limit?

check your xy datum in your CAD file. It’s most likely set to center, rather than bottom left.

Over/under on non-elite controllers and soft alarm on elite controllers mean the same thing, so the below principals apply to all machines. Many new users to the Onefinity CNC often get the machine unboxed, assembled, and moving in a few minutes without ever needing to look at instructions. But then they home the machine and are alarmed when their screen looks like this: (Left picture is non-e…

Logically this makes sense. However, I am replacing my spoil-board so I cannot use the left front corner due to the oversizing of the MDF material I place so that I can cut it down to maximum cut area, therefore, I set the project to the center of project and used MDI command to send the machine to the center for my XY/0

I hope this makes sense

Did you x,y zero from the center physically?

What size tool are you using or telling the machine you are using. If it is larger than 1/4 than the machine may not be allowing the tool to cross the outside boundary of the soft limits. try telling the machine the bit is 1/4 and cut air to see if it will go.

The size of your material does not matter. Because people use the probe to set their work-zero, they tend to associate work-zero with a corner of their material. Work-zero is the reference point from which the toolpath G-code was created.

Recreate your toolpath with a rectangle equal to the maximum capacity of your machine, and set the datum position to the lower-left.

Home your machine and set this as your work zero also. Since your material is oversized, this will be inside of the corner of the board. Your profile cut will now run along the boundaries of the machine.

You can refer to this post in another topic that explains the relationship between the CAD design, machine boundaries, and physical material.

To get the actual dimensions of your machine, home it to (0,0), then jog all the way to the right to get your max X, and jog all the way back for the max Y. The selection of machine in Vcarve is for creating the correct G/M Code for the machine’s instruction set. The material dimensions you set in your project actually don’t matter. The important parts are the [Z Zero] and [XY Datum] positions, as this is the r…

Yes, but where did you set xy zero to using the mdi?
