# Keeping epoxy filled lettering crisp

I want to epoxy-fill some text on a plaque. I know from past experience that vcarved letters can be easily misshapen if the surface is sanded too much. I was wondering if I could “overcarve” the letters by a 32nd by lying to CNC about where zero is, then run a 32nd finishing pass with CNC after epoxy dries…anyone done this or have other recommendation?

Yes John, I find that if I give myself that little extra depth and fill the Epoxy then use a surfacing bit to clean it up, everything stays crisp and clean

Set the start depth to the amount you want to increase the carve. Start depth of .031 would give the extra 1/32…

Always test on small sample stock first…
