I have been toying with the idea of getting a spindle. while looking I find nearly every brand touts their highest speed but since i am thinking about doing brass and aluminum as well as wood, I am wondering if there are slower speeds as well. Down to say 2000rpm? slower is good for metal but bad for wood I know so I might be barking at the moon here.

Hey Robert,

did you already use the search function and searched for [Lower speed high torque spindles](https://forum.onefinitycnc.com/search?q=lower%20speed%20high%20torque%20spindles)? I ask because among some relevant threads on the topic, there was this thread the other day:

- [Low-speed high-torque spindles availble to the US?](https://forum.onefinitycnc.com/t/low-speed-high-torque-spindles-availble-to-the-us/14305)

Note that the assumption that a spindle with four magnetic poles which runs at half the speed of a spindle with two magnetic poles will _automatically_ have twice the torque has not proven to be true, if you follow this thread.

(It is however true when comparing e.g. 2-pole [HFS-8022-24-ER20](https://www.mechatron-gmbh.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Datenblatt_HFS-8022-24-ER20.pdf) (0.9 Nm constant torque from 6,000 – 24,000 rpm) to 4-pole [HFPM-8022-24-ER20](https://www.mechatron-gmbh.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Datenblaetter_2019/Datenblatt_HFPM-8022-24-ER20.pdf) (1.6 Nm constant torque from 3,000 – 12,000 rpm))

You remember also the thread [Cutting thin gauge steel](https://forum.onefinitycnc.com/t/cutting-thin-gauge-steel/14206) which you participated in.

I think one of the challenges, and limitations, will be that the Onefinity although one of the more rigid hobby CNCs, may not be the best pairing for a high torque/low RPM spindle. I think it is matched well with the high speed spindles which can mill both wood and non ferrous metals with acceptable results.

yeah it was more me just anticipating getting a spindle one day and trying as always to do my due diligence. and finding out what works for others herrre on the forum.
