Just sharing - Finally got the laser hooked up and did some things with it in pine and slate. The pine made my basement smell like a camp fire, which isnt necessarily a bad thing since the cat liter boxes are down there 
- but as a result, I did end up designing and 3d printing this, and also adding a few things to my dust collection, and it results in zero smoke smell or smoke at all so far. I am just sharing. This is all part of learning adventure. (Note - the actual 4" dust models I found online, but I modified them. The laser smoke part and the clips I did). The bird in the pine was just an AI generated thing, and the cat is my brothers 3 legged cat.
Notice how I have a dust extractor AND a shop vac. Inside the shop vac I have a fine dust bag installed and it results in zero fine dust in the air. I only attach the other round filter with the laser stuff which has a filter and about 4 pounds of activated carbon in it. Found it on amazon. If I run just with the dust extractor I get about 900 - 1000 CFM on the CnC side. If I also turn on the shop vac, then I am at 3500 CFM 
Depending on the material I am cutting determines if I turn on one or both. Again, just sharing.
