Hi - I finally got to see a OneFinity in the Flesh at the Harrogate Woodworker show yesterday (UK). I was told by a rep that I can no longer buy direct from you and have to buy from Trend. Is this true? He said if I try to order online the order will be cancelled.
Interesting. I see it being offered on pre order on the Trend website. I’ve not done the math to determine whether there is a price differential. Trend will need their margin after all the import taxes and shipping and holding costs; could be up to 50%. are trend acting as a broker between Canada and the UK therefore shipping is still direct to customer from supplier?. For onefinity they must be letting go of a heck of a lot of their own margin going through a reseller and therefore expect volume through the UK reseller or trend prices are much higher than a direct from supplier import. Something will have to give, it would nice for it not to be the customer. On the upside, if trend hold spares and have their own support staff it may be easier for the UK customer.
Shame in a way. I saw a small side hustle for someone local in-country to hold a demo version and offer potential customers a see and try before you buy. Triton from Australia did that many moons back. Just needs a few folk distributed about the country with a decent-sized shed (workshop) and they take a small commission for their effort.
Yes - there is a huge mark up with Trend prices and the setup I want will cost me about £3200 uk pounds plus shipping and import duty at 20%. So from prices I saw, mine will cost around £7000 if I buy from Trend. Don’t think that included the 4th axis which I want. On the positive side, Trend will be the sole UK stockist and once they have stock, delivery here in the UK is two days and they keep spares. The one on display was the 48” version with stiffy and a spindle that all worked on a standard uk ring main. They will provide all support and I have been invited to their factory at or near Watford which is about a 2.5 hour drive from where I live. I will take a day off work to go and discuss everything in detail. Apparently the first shipment is due Jan 26. I hope to have my bench built because I don’t like the metal frame because I want to use the bench underneath to allow for storage. I’m hoping order it soon
Trend are massive in the UK and make high quality routers but their products are not cheap. It makes sense if they have become the Sole UK distributor
ÂŁ3200 + roughly ÂŁ500? in shipping - so ÂŁ3700 + 20% VAT would have been ÂŁ4400 total.
It looks like Trend don’t sell the base machines - only the spindle versions?
Hi Kaz
It seems that way the OF did not have a Trend router installed and it looked like a spindle to me. I will know more when I go and visit the factory.
Hi Kaz – the price I gave (£3200) was for the non-spindle version. So that might explain the difference.
Yes - the giveaway is the VFD (Little box under the frame below the waste-board) - that is the driver for the spindles. The cheaper “router” based models do not have them.
