Can you explain the process and material used in more detail. About as much detail in the carve please…

This was an experimental epoxy vcarve. Basically I started with a slab of white epoxy and did the photo vcarve in that. Then I poured a layer of black epoxy to fill the picture and then surface back down to where they meet to reveal the photo.

My father-in-law is a huge Avalanche fan! I’m curious how you made this—it would be awesome to create something similar for his birthday. is this file online?

Things have been crazy did my first market and then work has been silly busy. Here are a few things I have done. The first two are wedding gifts for my daughters best friend. She is a great young lady who is now in Med school. My daughter asked me to make her a charcuterie board and a Vols cutting board (She used to play for UTenn and was an all American pitcher (It was fun watching her and my daughter play against each other in college). The other cutting board is for my step son who is also a big UT fan. He asked for a cutting board to replace a plastic one.

lol. Thank you. 1- That board was given to Ashley Rodger’s All-American Softball pitcher. 2- My nephew is over the football recruiting. 3- I am Nole even though we were sorely lacking anything this year. I hope it is a good game as well.

Made lefty and righty wooden spoons that scrape into corners to fit 3/4”x3”x12” stock.

I learned that 3d software sucks.
Tried fusion-gave up after 3 weeks
Tried blender-got further but gave up.
Went back to Vectric, don’t like that you have to generate top/bottom, but it makes way more sense to my brain.

jumping from 60 to 600 grit to 3000 makes no sense at all. if you understand how sanding works you will understand why this is so. all you end up doing is flattening the peaks and the troughs remain. it just doesn’t work.

Exactly right, when I say going from 60 to 600 there is a whole file cabinet full off dividers that hold all of each increment to be used. On the highest end I have a Flex Pack (not sure if that is the correct name for it) that goes up to 15K grit. On the tree though, I did skip some of the finer grits to help give it a more natural woody texture then burnish after the finish cured.

sorry, i’d read it as only 60 then 600. Now i’ve also just read you are a retired engineer and you can trust engineers to get it right. happy new year to you.

ROFL, if only that were true!
Here is hoping you have many successful 1F projects this year too.

If you add the word “some” into this sentence, you could prevent a lot of people from nearly choking on their breakfast like I just did.

I was tasked with making an art pencil box over the holidays. Mistakes were made but everything was fixable and it came out pretty good in the end.

It is made from two different yard trees, one of which is a cypress of some kind so it has a nice fresh smell.

Been a long time since I’ve posted. Trying something new with carving. First time I’ve converted a 2d image to 3d. This is a baptism gift for a new God-child.

I’m considering adding a little gold leaf to the halos and the filigree in Mary’s veil. I love how Sapele carves and looks when finished.
