This was kind of interesting yesterday. A friend was over and we were building cabinet drawers and the magnetic part of touch probe was attached to QCW frame. He went to probe the machine and never moved the magnet tip to spindle collar. I was thinking it would push the block off the wood as it would not complete the circuit for touch probe. Well I was wrong and it actually did all the probing.
So the million dollar question is this doing anything (damage) to the machine if I just leave that attached to the frame of machine? It is actually kind of convenient to not have to put magnet on spindle each time. One less step to forget.

Hey Don,

you may be interested in reading → [this](https://forum.onefinitycnc.com/t/replacement-curly-cable/14837/7).

You closed the contact by using the machine chassis, but the correct way to do this is to correctly ground the machine. A spindle is neither a hand tool like the Makita hand trim router nor a machine, but a component to be intended to be part of a machine. The same applies to a VFD. If you marry a spindle to a Onefinity machine, you are the machine builder and have to comply to the safety standards. This is in the first place [IEC 60204-1](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60204). You have to ground the machine by grounding all its moving parts individually and lead the ground wires to one point, where they are connected with the VFD’s and the CNC Controller’s ground.

And yes, usually you don’t need the magnet end of the touch plate anymore then.
