First Cut Assistance Requested

Hi all, progress has been made. The tracing, surfacing toolpaths have been run. Next is #3 Locating Pin Holes. The bit I have I have a message on the Masso I don’t understand. I then realized the bit for this toolpath appears rather generic. Google hasn’t found a website for the manufacturer or a tool database to import into V-Carve. Two questions:

  • What is the message on the Masso mean? “1/16”? note the 2nd image shows tool #2 is 1/4" as expected.
  • Is the generic V-Carve tool database setting appropriate for this tool?

Is it OK to run this toolpath? If not, what do I need to change. Thanks all!

I am no expert but i remember reading somewhere on this forum that surfacing bits with Inserts are not good. they leave lots of ridges make sure you tram your unit especially using big surfacing bits

I would check what tool you have entered in your masso tool Database. Obviously your vectric tool database shows tool #2 is a 1/4" endmill. Do you have a 1/16" endmill listed as tool #2 in the Masso tooldatbase?

Correct. Was unaware of the MASSO G3 tool library. There are a few entries. I removed them. Too bad it doesn’t read the needed tool from the gcode. Moving forward. Thanks.

Thanks. I did why I could with it. I think it’s smooth. Or nearly smooth.

Try this Youtube Video from Mitchels Woodworking. He has great information about the Masso and Onefinity. It’s important that the Masso tool database and the Vectric tool database match. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvVy2r7kcvs&t=545s

Thanks all. I’ve been trying a few carves and am having mixed results. One thing I’d like to ask about is when the final toolpath of a carve is to go all the way though the material to cut it out I’m not actually going all the way though in places. I think it’s because I’m not setting the cut depth deep enough. Is there any other information I need to share or images?

  • Setup my material. Measuring it with dial calipers it measures just under .72".
  • Zero Z to the bed surface
  • Set the cut depth to the material thickness

Am I doing this correctly to on the final toolpath cut the part out? Thanks all!

How much materal is there left when its totally done?
