Forum introduction's

Charles in Ottawa, Ontario. I’ve been working with wood for almost 50 years now, renovations, trade show exhibit and display, film sets, photography studios, museum displays and more recently making shoji screens. My wife founded and is executive producer of the " Spirit of Toronto" whisky festival which had to go into hibernation for the past two years. So we went online doing tastings, 6 sample bottles in a small wooden presentation box. That was my part. 2,000 boxes later, I am just burned out but people still want more. So I priced having the components cut for me on CNC. $6,000.00 plus another $2,500 for laser engraving.:flushed: Couldn’t help thinking I could get my own machine for that kind of money. So here Is am assembling my table and enclosure with the boxes of onefinity stacked against the wall. This is going to be a steep learning curve for me, barely adept at email, loathe Facebook, computer illiterate, but at the same time I’m pretty pumped to put this puppy to work. I’m already moving beyond making the next batch of boxes in my head and starting to design things that I wouldn’t normally do because of time constraints.

Tony Bates, Morgan Hill, Northern California. Retired 3 years ago, moved into new home and built a workshop. I have been a hobby woodworker for 50 years. My wife gave me a Sainsmart Genmitsu ProverXl 4030 for my birthday in March this year. What a great machine and ‘entry drug” to CNC. Just too small with an 11” x 16” cutting area. She recently agreed to an upgrade to a OF Woodworker X50 for our wedding anniversary. It will arrive some time next week. Busy trying to fit a 4x4 table into. 280sqft workshop. Super excited.

Good luck on the new venture buddy. Wish you well…

Anyone here from NC or close to the Raleigh NC area?

My brother lives on Islay so last year i did the whisky tasting tour and this year i attended the whisky festival. Not much CNC’ing done

Guess this thread was buried when I joined… Josh here, mostly retired software engineer in NY state. Hobbyist maker here and rarely have the patience to make the same thing twice. Usually have 20 ideas in my head and 3 in various states of progress in the shop. Originally got into this whole space with one of the first Printrbot 3d printers and learned CAD with Autodesk Inventer. Later I was a member of TechShop in Austin TX for a number of years and used got introduced to CNC there with their Shopbot Alphas. Since then, I’ve had a Shopbot Handibot (sold), Maslow (used a couple times and deconstructed), Shapeoko 3XL (now a dedicated laser engraver), built a customized V1 Lowrider 4’x8’ (on it’s way out and will be repurposed as a portable 4x8 laser engraver), and am now waiting on a Journeyman that will have a 2.2kw water cooled spindle.

Primarily design with VCarve and Fusion. Still 3d print a lot (it’s the most useful tool in the house) and also use a Cricut (don’t recommend though), so usually there is at least one machine running in my house making something.

I’m excited to have some serious cutting power and faster feed rates again and can’t wait for the Journeyman to arrive!

Me too (or I will be - we’re building a house in Brevard).

Congratulations (or condolences )!

Sounds like a meetup may be in our future.

Rex I am in the fuquay Varina area. My journeyman just shipped.

I did not see this when I joined. I used to be a machinist for 10 years. I also programmed multi pallet machining centers before moving into the IT field. I really enjoyed programming a part from a block of steel into a part. I used solid works and cam works mainly. Before purchasing my OF, I built a belt driven cnc machine but was not a fan of it. I have also built 3 D printers and currently own 1. I am looking forward to getting back into designing and program items.

Man if you have any experience with machining then you should have any issues once your shipment arrives. Hope things go well for ya.

My daughter lives around Holly Springs so we are up that way from time to time. If you ever make it to Goldsboro, reach out.

Hi everyone, Chad from Bailey, NC here. I am a hobbist for sure, mainly
scroll saw with a little cnc mixed in over the last year. I ordered the Woodworker with a laser to replace my old machine. I got my shipping notice yesterday, the wait is almost over.

How cool is this, the inventor of 1F chiming in! Congrats to you Mark, for what has become the best cnc woodworking tool for craftsmen everywhere. Whatever it was that inspired you to create such a sturdy design for all of us wood working guys, GOOD on you mate! I sold Precor, a number of years back, when they started out with only a high quality aircraft aluminum rowing machine, another great story of design success.
