Wrap your harness wires

I just uploaded a video that shows how to wrap those wiring harnesses quickly and inexpensively. The demo is on my ELITE machine but this technique works on any CNC (or other) wiring harness to keep things neat. Take a look and let me know what you think.

While I appreciate the simplicity of just wrapping them with electrical tape, you’re going to hate yourself if you have to replace one of those cables down the road. I used inexpensive automotive wire loom - the Alex Tech braided fabric type. There’s also split corrugated plastic loom or the plastic spiral loom. They come in lots of sizes and are far easier to add or remove wires from the bundle. Auto parts stores or Amazon have them. You only have to open the overlap, find the wire you need to service and pull it down the loom split and it comes right ot leaving the rest of the bundle tucked away. The spiral stuff is harder to get at - not quite as bad as unwrapping electrical tape that it’s worth the extra bucks for the split loom stuff instead. The woven fabric kind is good for our use case because it flexes better for all the movement we get with the spindle & axis travel.

It isn’t electrical tape, it is purpose-made loom wrap. I’ve used this stuff for years on my other CNC and 3D printer machines. It comes off very easily. I’ve used literally every type of wire wrap and loom out there. I do prefer the Alex Tech braided fabric type but these bundles of looms I wrapped in the video are about 1" in cross section so the tape does a much better job of holding them together. The spiral stuff is much stiffer. Do you have a source for 1.25-1.5" split fabric loom (in hobbyist quantities)? I’ve looked and couldn’t find it.

Would you link the remote setup you got from Amazon. Is it complete with the support post, extension and mount?

Thanks. It has been several years since I searched AliExpress for this but I see that there are several sources now. I’ll pick some up just because I do love loom and if I do have to unwrap this, I’ll try the large diameter stuff.

@stevecartee Here’s the link: https://amzn.to/3wOOe4F (note this is my affiliate link, thank you if you use it)

It includes everything and the post can either be clamped on to your table or mounted with a bolt through a hole. I currently use the clamp but intend to permanently mount with the bolt once I am sure the position is best. It also includes the mount that screws to the back of the MASSO Touch display.

Thanks, plan to order today.
