I have upgraded my machine to the Z-20 Slider and Redline Spindle.
When I mechanically mount my Z-20 to the Z-Axis mounting, even when I use the screwholes that keep the Z-20 up as high as possible and I mount the Redline Spindle into the Z-20 as high as it can go (and still have the dust boot fit on, I have very little height from the spoilboard to the bit. In fact, not sure I’ll even be able to get the bit up enough to use the RapidChange ATC (installed but not setup yet).
I feel like I’m probably missing something obvious…
How much clearance should you be able to get between the collet nut and the spoilboard? (I have a 3.4" spoiboard).
I have a Woodworker X50 with the Z20 so I’m not sure if this will help but here’s a couple of pics. My spoil board is 3/4 inch thick and I have almost 5 1/2 inches between the collet and the spoil board with the Z as high as it will go.
One of my challenges is I have the RapidATC for Onefinity.
The RapidATC is mounted to my table (not the spoilboard) and it’s just under 4.5" tall.
So collet to ATC with your setup would only allow me to have just about 1" of bit.
After some adjusting of the position of the spindle in the Z-20, I now have 7.5" from collet to the table (not spoilboard). So I do have enough clearance to get the bit up and into the ATC.
I had about an 1" gap between the dust collection and the spindle mount (for another reason - to create a way to mount my dust hose better) but for now i’ve removed that.
So OhioMike THANK YOU for the picture. It confirmed I have the Z-20 correctly mounted to the Z-Axis, so I’ll be working this from here. Have a great day!
