4th axis unit needs to be shorter

Strange question for you. I have the 4 axis but I have not yet used it. I am going to put it on my new table for the gen 2 unit. can I shorten the total length by even little bit, by loosening the rail screws and sliding the head stock toward the center? and same for the tail stock? it looks doable, but will it screw with the parameters of the post processor? or upset anything else. I don’t mind not having the total length.
