Xtool is releasing a 20W Diode. I know next to nothing about lasers, but are Diodes other than JTech compatible if you fabricate a mount?
@BuiltByBittle absolutely! I have used a lot of different diode lasers and the Xtool is by far my favorite. All of the others you tend to have to buy a lot of other accessories to make it work the way you want. But the only thing with the Xtool you can look at buying is an air assist and a light burn camera mount. Both can be found on Etsy here is my mount
Sorry, are you saying you’ve used the Xtool laser module attached to your Onefinity spindle mount with the Onefinity machine, or just used the Xtool laser as a separate standalone machine? Thanks
As a separate stand alone machine. That way I can do multiple projects at the same time
Ok thanks. Yes, that makes sense.
I’m curious if the laser head could be attached to the OF and run by its controller for the larger area and maybe combining with routing files in Vcarve on the same project.
I see what you are saying. I want to do the same thing. The diode I was using started to die so I got the xtool. Absolute night and day difference, but the footprint is quite small and a few projects I use to do I can’t do anymore due to the size. I too want to mount the diode to the onefinity, but there are zero wiring schematics shown what is what and I’m to scared to cut the wires on a $1000+ machine if I don’t know for sure if it will work on the onefinity.
Yes, those things, and I’d have to think the Onefinity is a little more stable and accurate platform for the laser as well.
I’m with you - I wouldn’t be confident enough to cut the wires either without more info. From what I could see on the website, the Xtool documentation is very sparse. Maybe you could get them to send you something more technical. But I’m not even sure if all the Onefinity controller info for laser connections is easily available. There are guys on here that are pretty knowledgeable about the code behind the Onefinity controller, so maybe could help.
I haven’t heard of anyone trying to connect the Xtool laser head to the Onefinity, although over on Facebook there was someone who (unsuccessfully) tried to wire up the Xtool rotary. Both Xtool and Onefinity show compatability with Lightburn, so if you could be sure of the wiring and communication between Onefinity and the Xtool controller unit, you might get it to work with Lightburn in common.
Right now I’m leaning toward Opt laser for compatibility, quality, and ability to use the same Vcarve Pro toolpaths with their laser module. I suppose I could build a separate laser kit later if I wanted and use the same laser head. But not ready to buy anything quite yet.
I didn’t see availability of a laser module on their website, only looked like they sell full machines.
Wasn’t very clear how to find it, but they list this as their 20w module. I don’t know what all you would need to tie it in to the Onefinity controller
Thanks Martin… it even has “back to school” pricing.
Extra bonus. They seem to have picked up on a number of U.S. marketing techniques … unfortunately. Interesting product, though, worth considering
Has anyone tried this yet?
