I use SolidWorks with my robotics team’s Onefinity.

Hello,
I am all very new to CNC routing. I was about to start getting a lot of seat time with Fusion 360 until I heard about them removing features. Also I’m not very keen on it being cloud based.
I will be using solidworks for design but their CAM software is only 2.5 axis. Instead of trying to juggle using the cam features of Fusion alongside solidworks, for purely CNC routing would it be best to just get something like vcarve? I’d prefer whatever is the most user friendly as I don’t want to…
Hi everyone, there have been a few previous posts talking about Solidworks Cam but I did not find any concrete answers.
My day job is a Mechanical Engineer and I use Solidworks all day everyday. We have Solidworks Cam as apart of our license and there has been some interest from our machine shop to also use it also for our production machines. IE I have some motivation to learn the CAM side.
Are there any downsides for me using (FREE as its apart of my work) Solidworks? Other than the complexi…
Hello,
This is my first post here. I see the Onefinity is opening up orders on Monday and I’m eager to get my hands on one. I have no personal CNC experience but I’ve been using SolidWorks for designing STL files that I have been getting printed at Shapeways or i.Materialise for quite some time. I believe SolidWorks is capable of making g-code but at the moment this isn’t something I have played with. Will I be able to do everything with SolidWorks? Or would I be better off getting another…
Since I posted that original reply, I have cut a few parts using SW + HSMExpress and it’s working quite nicely. Keep in mind these are 2.5D parts, nut full 3D. You need the “pro” version of HSM (HSMWorks) to do 3D machining.
What exactly are you planning on cutting?
