How do you do this in vcarve?
Hi Thopper – I don’t use vcarve, but isn’t there an offset tool? Not sure if it keeps a constant radius though.

I cannot find an offset tool in vcarve. I am experimenting with “carbide create” and making progress. I am a newbie to cnc programming but have a decent understanding of geometry. What program would be best to create the above and then convert to gcode? Low cost is an objective as well. Once I have the gcode I have access to to a 4x8 CNC router that I can utilize.
Thx Jeff

Hi Jeff - there is an offset tool in CC, and Ken mentioned an offset tool in vcarve. Unfortunately, neither allow you to download gcode without paying – I think vcarve allows you to download a small amount of gcode, so it might work if you have something simple.
If you want free, well, you are looking at Easel and Autodesk Fusion. I think Onshape is also free if the projects are public, but it’s missing CAM if I recall. Alternatively, you can draw it in Inkscape or any vector program and then import into your CAM tool of choice.
Offsetting is super easy in Fusion, but the Cam workspace is far from user friendly. I have a couple videos showing how to use CAM in fusion if you are interested.
