Should the cooling fans on the controller run anytime the controller is on or are they thermally controlled?
100% on when the controller is on.

What was the reason to add a fan as the buildbotics box is fabless? Is it due to driver or rasppi temps?
Mine comes on and off like it was controlled. 
Figured it out the wire was loose inside the pen going to the connector. I just soldered the connection.
