I have the “game” controller, I am fine with the xyz + buttons for speeds.
BUT… I wonder if the Dpad could be the mouse. and pushing in the center the left click.
I opted out of the touch screen and use a 24" monitor with a trackpad.
Just finding it annoying if I already have the game controller in my hand to put it down (and away) to have to hit play. It would help during probing too.
Do not know if anyone else would think this is a good solution to my “first world” problem. 
I can see on the buildbotics controller the Dpad is used for menu nav.
