Failed to back off Y home sensor

Good morning,

New CNC owner and having issues with the Yhome. I receive this error after every home.

Failed to back off Y home sensor

How can I fix it?

Hi @alfredbeas

This can occur if the machine is out of square or the Y-axes are out of alignment when the homing is started. The error can occur sometimes if one of the Y-rails hits the homing sensor much sooner than its partner.

One quick fix to try is to hit the e-stop so the axis can move freely. Manually pull both Y rails to the front so they are at the zero position. Release the e-stop and try homing again.

Thank you. I’ll give it a try. It randomly started doing it about 2-3 days after building it. Stopped for about two days and came back today.

I have also seen some reports of bright light interfering with the opto-interrupter homing sensors. It might also be worthwhile to throw some makeshift shields over them to see if that is the issue.

these shields

seem to work for me when i had the same problem. people here on the forum are printing them

just FYI… I also had this problem but it was none of these causes…

Turns out I had a bent pin on the connector for Y2 limit sensor, causing it to not work. Quick fix, after consulting 1F support, to just straighten the pin and reconnect… fixed all my problems!

Confirmed there is a little red LED light visible inside all the limit sensors!
