First cut in soapstone

well i still kinda don’t know what i’m doing, but went from vcarve desktop in to soapstone & super stoked :slight_smile: now i need to get a quietish ventilation system = what do y’all recommend?

Very nice looking. What bit(s) are you using, anything special or just a BN?..

nothing special at all :slight_smile: soapstone is a total joy… softer than aluminum, and i’ve got 3 quarries of the stuff in the back yard :stuck_out_tongue:

Just 1/4" carbide end mill

I use cutoffs from a local soapstone countertop dealer. Here’s a small trinket box I made, 4" dia.

I oiled it with mineral oil after sanding it so this is the raw look. I used my go-to Jenny bits.

Soapstone is a great material for carving. For most people it’s entirely unexpected but it’s not really any different than doing a wood carving.

These gave me an idea…for you.
Unfortunately I do not know if files exist for carving such things, but it might be a great application for both the 1F and the material you have.
