There may be times you need to adjust bearing stick out on the rail bearings.
GEN 2 Machines
The below applies to Gen 2 rails for:
- Elite Gen 2 Series
X Rail:
On the X rail (60mm tubes) the bearings will have some stickout. Be sure the stick out is even on the left and right sides, and the top and bottom bearing stickout match.
There are 3 grub screws on one side (red arrows) that hold the top bearing in, and 3 arrows on the other side (not shown). All 6 of these should be loosened to adjust stickout.
The yellow line in the picture divides the housing, and the bottom bearing is held in with the (blue arrows) grub screws, 6 in total.
After adjusting, it is important to tighten them to 4.3 inch lbs of torque. Over tightening these can lead to mobility issues (tightening the C shapped bearings too much will ‘clamp’ them too tight and stop the bearing from sliding on the rail smoothly.)
Y Rail:
On the Y rail (50mm tubes) the bearings will be flush to the sides of the gantry block. Be sure they are flush on the left and right sides, and the top and bottom bearing stickout match.
There are 3 grub screws on one side (red arrows) that hold the top bearing in, and 3 arrows on the other side (not shown). All 6 of these should be loosened to adjust stickout.
The yellow line in the picture divides the housing, and the bottom bearing is held in with the (blue arrows) grub screws, 6 in total.
If the stickout is incorrect, it can lead to failure of homing and motor errors.
GEN 1 Machines
The below applies to Gen 1 rails for:
- Original Series
- Pro Series
- Elite Gen 1 Series
If you look at the picture below, you’ll see 4 green arrows pointing to holes. These holes have grub screws inside. These grub screws hold the 4 bearings in each gantry block. There are 4 holes and grub screws on either side of the block, for a total of 2 grub screws holding each bearing in place.
To adjust each bearing, simply loosen the two corresponding grub screws adjust the stick out of the bearing, and retighten the grub screw.
The bearings should have 19.17mm of stick out on either side of the gantry block on X-35 Y Rails.
