Introducing The Z-20 Heavy-Duty Z-Slider (November 2022)

@jfleser

I ended up canceling my z20 order because a friend of mine convinced me to upgrade to an elite machine. Ordered about a week I think after the announcement, and still haven’t got my elite machine yet.

PNC suggested to me to just use the 2 inch shoe then convert to the 4 inch hose just above the shoe.

@pepper7144 Which boot are you using?

Jim I dont have a machine at this point. I have been looking at the PNC v7 but that wont work with the new Z20. I asked them with a support email. my last post was the summary of that letter. They did not have an answer for a 4in hose. I am order 35007 mine is not due to ship till May 5, then 5-7 days in shipment. I am hoping my Carve Co Maker subscription will still be honored, I wasnt about to activate before my machine was imminently arriving.

Thanks again @TMToronto . My spindle and slider arrived this week, and while still installing, I have plenty of clearance even with the Z-20 mounted in the highest position. (Shown at full retract height here in my 24" enclosure)

As of 4/27/23, all backorders of the Z-20 have been shipped out. Any new orders will be shipped in 2-4 weeks (usually sooner).

Thanks everyone for your enthusiasm and patience!

Looking forward to receiving my Z-20.
I really dig this machine! :+1:

Awesome, went ahead and ordered one.

The heavy Z was by far the most attractive part of the elite package to me. Ever since changing to a spindle I have been jonesing for something like this.

My Z-20 arrived today. 21 weeks (5 months) from order to arrival. Guess my timing was just off…

Z-20 Slider and X-50 Stiffy ordered April 18, delivered and installed today, May 5. :+1:

Have you noticed whether the Z-20 slider is holding the weight of your spindle without dropping / lowering when powered down?

I park my machine in the home position when shutting down.
This morning, Z is still at the top, no droop overnight.

My Z-20 order took over 5 months to deliver and you get yours in just a couple of weeks. All comes down to timing, I guess. My X-50 doesn’t have a Stiffy because I didn’t know how weak the Makita solution would be. I’m in process of installing the spindle and Z-20 and these two units are very beefy. I hope the non-Stiffy holds up. Anyone have the 220V spindle with Z-20 and a non-Stiffy solution? Hold up OK??

Given that many of us have been running a spindle with a stock z axis, id say the z20 will be just fine.

I installed mine today. I havent used it other than to drive it around. It is quicker for sure.

I finally installed my Z-20 and 2.2KW spindle and it drops at power off/loss. I am also fighting with getting it to stall home properly. I also have a problem where when manually
Jogging z axis up it stalls out. Been looking for answers, did you get yours up and running with any of these problems?

I’m literally doing it as we speak. Doing some ball nut cleaning and general maintenance at the same time. So, later today I should be able to let you know.

Did you upgrade to the 1.3 firmware? Did you find the EM60 in the dropdown menu? Did you set the system up to let it know you were using a Z-20?

Yes I’m on 1.3 and it is in there, make sure you do a reset and tell it you are using the z-20.

Has anyone used the Z-20 with the A-Axis (4th Axis?) If so can you share a picture or video? Would like to see how it allows for the extended length.

A is for rotary, so the z-20 wouldn’t be applicable here.

All well and good but until they fix the issue of poor screw placement and sizing to hold the z-axis, I might pass on this as I’ve had screws loosening during cuts and jamming the z-axis and shaving aluminum from the router cradle. Plus steel screws and aluminum blocks is just a huge balls-up waiting to happen!
