Laser Material Test Card for VCarve Pro - "Hexasketch"

I’ve been using the Vectric laser module. I know Lightburn is better and the industry standard, but I just prefer doing all of my CAD/CAM in a single program. I’m not doing anything crazy and many of the Lightburn features I like don’t work with the GRBL machine. I just haven’t see enough of a benefit to dedicate using Lightburn for my lasers and VCarve Pro for my spindle. I might hit that point one day, but I haven’t yet.

Adriel, thanks for your comments.
If possible, would love the Snuffleupagus files.
I had J-Tech refurb my existing 7W to 7W+/pro when I bought my 64w 3-1 laser.
Jay (from J-tech) gave me suggestions on air assist pump and smoke exhaust. which uses 6" diameter fitting.
Thanks in advance… Dan L

That’s pretty practical

Hi PezWoodworks, I’m sure Lightburn is great. I agree with CaptCorpMURICA’s reasoning. Some of my projects have involved both laser cutting and CNC machining on the same work piece, and dual sided to boot. Needing to split this work across multiple CAD/CAM softwares would add complexity. Here are some examples…

Ornaments -

CNC operations: Outside profile cut, backside pocket, profile cut for back piece, ‘2024’ engraving, machining of indexing jigs for two sided work
Laser Operations: Inside detailed cuts, engrave through masking for ‘O Holy Night’ paint fill

Fridge magnet -

CNC Operations: Outside profile cut, backside pocket, profile cut for back piece
Laser Operations: Inside detail cuts, veneer cutting, inlay cutting

Dan, attached is the Snuffleupagus in SVG format. I laser cut this on 1/4" Birch plywood from Lowes (which measures 13/64" on my caliper). Be prepared for some sanding or even slight mods to get it all to fit together… I only built one so it certainly isn’t optimized for easy assembly. I use mine constantly, it works fantastic for both laser cut smoke and getting rid of fumes from finishes. For picking up laser cut smoke I simply clamp it to the work bed within a few feet of the laser. I also placed some french cleats above the bed of the CNC, I can hang Snuffy from these and use some large pieces of cardboard to create a very effective finishing booth that absolutely eliminates any and all overspray and lacquer fumes.

Looks versital!
This will help me get started.
I just added my exhaust fan and air assit. This will help learn about kerfs and make parts fit
I appreciate your help!
