I made a tray/charcuterie board with round and rectangle pockets. It turned out nice except for the pocket side walls. They have ridges on them, The bit went back and forth then did a dia, cut. In other words on a 3in circle the cutter went back and forth then went around the 3in. Same thing for the rectangle pockets. Is there away to correct this ? I was expecting the bit to cut in a circular pattern not back and forth. Is that normal? thank you
If you are using Vectric, in the pocket tool path you choose between offset or raster, offset is circular and raster is linear.
If you want real clean walls leave a little stock on the pocket toolpath and finish it with a profile path with the bit going full depth in one pass

I’m using carve co maker. I’m still new to all this. Those are great tips. I’ll check and see what the settings are. Thank you
yes it was set to raster
I’m not sure in Carveco but in Vectric’s software there is a setting as Pat pointed out that allows you to leave a small amount of stock on the walls of the pocket which can then be machined using a conventional cut. Something like 0.02 would be sufficient.
Just went through this as well. What works for me is offset the vector by 1/16” and do a full depth profile pass. I’m just more comfortable visualizing the different vectors as opposed to messing with the offset/allowance settings in the tool path. If you run it all with the same bit/same file just make sure you save the tool paths in the right order…cheers
