I learned a new word - thank you.

Be SUPER careful! Lots of professional sports teams are quite protective of their copyrights. Other companies that are super protective are Harley Davidson, Disney, and the Dr. Seuss estate. I learned recently that even the branches of the US military require you to obtain permission before using their logos. Lots of people think it only applies if you sell it, but I know of people who have received letters - and even lawsuits - when just making it for themselves.
Not trying to start anything, just a warning to be careful! In this instance (from another carving group I belong to), it ended up costing him approximately $8000.

A very good point Dale! That is one reason why I shy away from reproducing trademarked items (other than anything I might lust after for my own home). I’m sure there is probably someone who would say that is risky as well though. (of course after I’m gone how could the provenance be verified? So sue my ashes. LOL)
I don’t sell (or even reimbursement for material, etc.) because my interest is hobby centered only, but generally I am in complete agreement about being cautious on copyrighted/trademarked items.

Yup, very good points indeed. I am just sticking with the one for my man cave and moving on to learning new things with my machine. I already have a business and I have no intentions of using this hobby to make a few bucks. I think there was a time when Disney was going after all the pre-schools that had Mickey painted on the walls! I am curious how Etsy does not run into problems from users selling SVG files of protected brands.

One of my first projects and my first 3D carve, just got around to the poly tonight. Couldn’t be happier with the result

Just finished my first two sided 3D carve. I named it ‘Smoak’ because it is made from an old scrap oak table top that I rescued from a burn pile years back. It is finished in Odie’s Oil but I’ll wait a day or so to polish it off in ‘wood butter’ to give it a bit of glow.

This was my first shot at two sided carving and, though moderately challenging, I know there is plenty more to come!

That’s cool. What does the other side look like?

It mirrors on the opposite side.

I did my first multi-sided, 3D cut today–7.3 hours of milling, not included six setups and a dozen bit changes.

The first-first attempt was less than a resounding success. Apparently I tried to fool Fusion into accepting my .25mm ball nose tapered end mill as a V bit some time in the past…did not label it well. In the learning category, this is what happens when CAM treats a tapered ball nose as a V. The picture doesn’t do justice to how chunky it is.

Second first attempt, however, turned out better than I hoped.

And for scale…

My very first project and one I will treasure forever because I got to share it with my oldest son. My 8 year old, Jack, was ecstatic and was watching the progress bar on the screen and calling out the percentages! When it hit 100 he acted like he had won the Super Bowl! I hope my baby boy Hank will be able to join the fun in a couple of years!

Congratulations, the smile on your son is priceless. I am waiting on my F1 to come in and my son will be joining me on this venture. Hey, what kind of table is that?

You will both have a blast! A quick warning though, your son will have a million things he wants to make! The table is a Kreg workbench 44” x 64”. Hope you enjoy your Onefinity as much as we do! Here’s a link to the table Kreg Workbench

It looks like oak wood to me
It’s a nice hard wood

I made this game board over the weekend…The Ancient Game of Ur. The idea and the file came from the link posted below. The board is pine because that is what I had handy. The game pieces are from maple and purple heart scraps I had on hand. The dice are just D4 dice blanks off amazon with sharpie marker on the two corners (for game play rules). I’m really digging the game! I’ll be making more boards out of better wood for some friends.
