Whenever I power down my machine the Spindle assembly just drops down. Is this normal? I currently place a piece of wood under my spindle and adjust it down just until it’s about 0.01 inch clear, and then power down machine. This way it only drops 0.01 and hit the wood. Is there are way to make it remain in the up position when powering down?

RichD when you generate a post you should always think to give us all the details… We cannot ready your mind.
I think you have a elite machine with the masso controller? and I think you are running with a spindle vs a router? If this is a spindle then you should get this
Elite Z-20 Braking Closed Loop Stepper Motor
and replace your Z stepper. The braking Z stepper locks and keeps the spindle from dropping after you turn off power.
