Just waiting on a Spindle now

All I need now is a Spindle, still waiting on that to arrive.

I have had my Elite up and running for a couple of months now, what a pleasure it is to use, the tool setter was a game changer for me working on parts with multiple tools.

Yes, i had toolsetter on my last cnc, that was a homebuilt machine running Mach3. Couldn’t imagine running code without it.

I have been making and running machines using Mach 3 for a long time, Masso is a real breath of fresh air comapared to Mach

Yes, wish i had all the the time and money i wasted back. Masso was the game changer for me also, plus the closed loop. Now if only i could buy an ATC setup out of the box teady to go…

@Mrd

(staring with envy) That looks nice.

Honestly, I suspect that the suspense is even worse now knowing that you’re 90% there without the spindle. How many times have you moved the gantry around pretending it was cutting?

Hang in there!

Actually, i ran several large gcode files from Aspire to check for any glitches. I had a 2.2 kw spindle that was dead, so threw that onto the gantry. The only thing i noticed was the z let the spindle down when i shut it off. Working on that problem.

Also connected to wifi, that was the easiest thing I’ve done in a long time, i was expecting to go to war to connect…truly painless experience.

@Mrd Does this help you with the Z-Axis dropping?

TMToronto mentioned steppers with an integrated brake and Aiph5u mentioned a counter balanced Spring, which I think somebody actually installed on a machine.

Yes, already read those, brake seems interesting idea, just waiting to see how the elite performs in actual use before i take that leap. Spring counter balance would be much cheaper for sure, but a little more challenging.

My off-hand assumption is that to spring it correctly, the Z-axis assembly would feel neutral with the spindle and overly sprung without the spindle. If you do get the spring working right, would you post back?

Yes, after i model it, and test it I’ll share my results, good or bad.

I have had no issue with the Z dropping after power off and I see some have the issue some do not, I wonder if it might be how tight the nut on the thrust bearing is tightened up to, you can definitely lock up the ball screw by over tightening it, just a thought.

I’ve run a test with this 2.2kw spindle, this is power off, been holding overnight. I also ran gcode test and hit e stop mutiple times, with no drop of the z axis, only time will tell if it holds after long hours of running…

Well i received notice from Masso Aus. And onefinity that i was unluckily the recipient of the incorrect motor resistors…so everything has ground to a halt while im waiting on new boards arrival for my motors.

That’s a bummer. I’m sorry to hear.

I got both notices as well , I have been running my machine a lot with no issues???

The notice from 1F and Masso were pretty much identical.

Important Notice - Resolution for Recent Equipment Issue

Dear Customer,

As a part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and service excellence, we write to you with an important update concerning our partnership with Onefinity.

Recently, we discovered that a small batch of our MASSO closed-loop stepper motors, was inadvertently manufactured with an undersized resistor at the factory. This has led to an occurrence of unexpected motor alarms and potential power-up issues for the MASSO G3 Touch unit.

We understand that this situation might have caused considerable inconvenience to our users, and for this, we extend our sincerest apologies. We also appreciate your patience as we have been working diligently behind the scenes to find the cause of the issue and design a robust solution.

We are pleased to inform you that we now have a plan in place. The resolution involves a simple addition of an electronic component to the affected motors. This can be done with just a screwdriver to insert the correct resistor, which will effectively prevent any false motor alarms. Onefinity will be reaching out to you directly with shipment dates for the parts, along with detailed instructions for the process.

We would like to advise you to refrain from using your machine until the resistors have been successfully installed. This is a necessary precaution to prevent any false motor alarms or possible damage to the equipment.

Please note, this communication is being sent only to those who might be affected by this issue. If you have not received a direct contact from Onefinity, your machine is not included in this batch and is unaffected.

At MASSO, we take great pride in our products and service. We want to reassure you that we, along with Onefinity, are fully committed to supporting your CNC journey and assisting you with any issues you may face. Although Onefinity will be your primary contact for resolving this particular issue, we are equally here for you.

Should you need any additional support from us, please do not hesitate to email us at support@masso.com.au. When contacting, remember to include your controller serial number to expedite assistance.

We deeply value your partnership and are committed to doing everything we can to ensure your satisfaction. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your understanding.

Kind Regards,
The MASSO Team

I did experience the touch screen not booting up. Only happened once, but ill take them at their word and not run the cnc until the parts arrive

Better to err on the side of caution. Pretty sure that the Manufacturers wouldn’t go to this trouble unless it was an important issue.

I’m very happy with onefinity Journeyman, the little things are nothing. I’ve built several cnc’s over the years and I’m super happy that others are taking care of the issues…no more pulling out my hair.

Hi! Would you mind posting some details on your table setup. I can see the toolbox, but what’s behind it? Did you attach the table to the toolbox or is it just sitting on top? My Journeyman is scheduled for the first part of August and I am trying to decide what to do for a table before it gets here. I like the toolbox idea.
