Until now, I’ve been frustrated in my attempts to obtain a hard copy of my tool database. I wanted it for ready reference in the shop, and to compare the VCarve tool database to Redline tool list in order to make sure all the tool numbers matched.
It’s just about impossible to get the VCarve tool database in any kind of readable form. Vectric support very kindly did it for me, with the aid of Claude AI. I certainly wanted to avoid that whole process if possible.
Imagine my delight in finding out that users can easily download the Redline controller tool list as a JSON file, using the web interface. Go to “File Manager / GCode / Tools / tool_table.json” and click on “Download”.
My spreadsheet (Libre Office Calc, a free download) opens the JSON transparently, arranging the columns and rows automatically and ready for editing and printing. All of the JSON data appears in the spreadsheet
It appears that most spreadsheet programs (Excel, etc.) can also do this.
