This is a similar request to one I posted about 2 years ago…I have a 7watt Jtech laser for my OF Pro Woodworker. I also have an air-assist nozzle mounted to the laser with tubing routed through the drag chain. It requires partial disassembly of the laser housing to remove the air tube, so removing the laser from the CNC when I’m spindle carving is a pita.
I have cobbled together a little cradle from 1/4 luan that sits atop the Z gantry, but it is kludgy and inelegant. Any 3D printer shops out there with a nice custom solution? If not, what do you do with your laser? Even if you don’t have the air tubing problem, constant plugging and unplugging of molex connectors can’t be a good thing…..
I came up with a slightly different solution to the air assist tubing and laser head storage. I had looked for something to hold the laser out of the way on the Z axis when not in use. I wasnt happy with what I found, and I was concerned with damaging the laser if it was secure enough when the gantry was moving and the spindle was in use. I also have the 3-in-1, so a pricey oops if something were to happen to it.
I decided on adding a quick disconnect to my air assist tubing up near the top of the z axis. I bought a sharkbite quick disconnect from lowes and cut the tubing where i wanted it. That way i can simply unplug the tube air and power lines for the laser and store it awaysafely on the shelf when not in use.
