Trying inlay work ... issues with detail

I promised I would post pictures

Male:

Female:

Finished:

Thoughts:

Both the male & female carves went well. Using the taper bit VCarve actually stepped down in Z, not taking the entire depth in one pass … a good thing.

There were lot’s of artifacts left behind after the carve … these little slivers had to be knocked out with a dental pick. (about 1 hr. for both male & female clean up)

I messed up somewhere and did not re-sync the female and male sides after a geometry tweak … so male and female pieces did not fit together.

Time for a pivot. I purchased crushed turquoise and super glue from Amazon. I filled the female side with the stone and tossed the male side into the scrap bin.

Finish is 5 coats of clear shellac on the show face, and board butter on the back face. The base wood is cherry and should patina well.

Overall, I would grade this a “B” … there are two flaws, but the wedding was Sunday.
