V-Carve Pro making the Skull

I watched the OneFinity making the skull on you tube. the questions I have:

  1. where to start, how to do it (would like general steps please or a video)
  2. Is the skull model available for down load?
  3. Can this be done with any STL model that is found (like thingiverse)
  4. what bit set would be the best to use/by
  5. could the raw material be a log
    thanks

Do you have the 4th axis? What programming software are you using? You can cut any stl model, but you might have to flip it several times if you do not have a rotary. As far as using a log, how big of log are you talking about?

There are lots of variables here that would need to be answered before anyone can give you the advise you are looking for. If you have never done a 3D carve, I would stick with something easier like a one sided job first. Then work your way up to a rotary. Just my opinion. The bit you would want to use it a small tappered ballnose like the skinny Jenny or something similar. The smaller the tip the more detail you will get.

Hello Michael
I do not have one yet, has been ordered, 12 weeks out.
I have Vcarve Pro,have thought about upgrading to Aspire, and a 3D camera for generating STL’s
have just started to learn Blender (because it is free)
have high hopes but willing to try and play
Yes I have seen the rotate option that you are talking about

I have modified a model in blender but that was the extent of my knowledge with it. I do know Catia, NX, and vcarve pro. I would like to upgrade to Aspire as well. Good luck on your journey. Hopefully you get your machine soon.
