Vetric training

Hi all!

I’m new here and new to CNC in general. I’ve picked up Vcarve pro with the intention of making custom foam inserts for cases, tool boxes, ect.. using 3D scans that I have been taking of both the equipment and cases the foam is going into for accurate dimensions. Does anyone have any recommendations for instructor lead or 1 on 1 training that I may be able to take to learn the process of taking my 3D scans and turning that into proper Gcode? Happy to pay anybody for their time!

I’ve been using VCarve Desktop for a couple of years. If you want to DM me with a sample scan, I can try to get you started.

Thanks Mike! I may be too new/not trusted yet to message members, I don’t see a direct DM for you, what’s the best way to send that over?

You’re right, I see you are a new user. You need a “Basic Trust” level, which comes fairly quickly. I sent you a DM with my addy.

Thank you! Sending that over now.

Also check out the website ToolTrace.Ai which can do exactly what you want with a photo of the tools and a sheet of paper. It can create Gridfinity files or DXF for import to vectric

I did see something similar as well! It was called shapescan, I’ll have to check out tool trace, thank you!

You might as well take a look at Tracefinity too.

Like tooltrace.ai, they do offer free tiers with limited numbers of files allowed to be generated, but they also offer free docker downloads so you can host your own tracefinity server with no such restrictions.

That looks promising as well, only downside it looks like is the limitation of A4 or letter paper, I’ve got a lot of stuff that is way to big for those.

Tooltrace at least only needs the paper sheet to be in frame, it doesn’t matter if there are more tools than fit on the piece of paper, it uses the paper to rectilinearise the frame and get sizing.

That’s good to know! I’ll have to see if Tracefinity can do the same and how accurate these all are. Right now I’ve been 3d scanning my tools with a handheld scanner that’s been very accurate. It’ll also help with asymmetrical items that need additional pockets cut to sit flat that the auto tracers can’t see.

Yea, sorry, I thought tracefinity worked on foam, but it only generates stl files for gridfinity bins.

I had looked at as many options as I could find and assumed tracefinity did foam also but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
