I think there is a bit of variance in the width, but front and back should be exactly the same distance. According to the setup instructions (ok, my recollection of them, which might be correct), bolt one y-axis rail down, move the x-gantry to the front, square the front, slide x-gantry to the back, then bolt down. Note that you also want the diagonal measurements to be the same, which can take a bit of tweeking if the y-rails are slightly different length.
Might as well search the forum for “co-planarity” and/or “fishing line test,” as that’ll come up at some point.
