"Z" stepper motor getting hot

X50 workman

So I am in the middle of a 4 hr finish pass on a 3D project.
I was vacuuming up some wayword chips and working around the moving gantry.
At one point I rested my hand on the Z stepper motor, it was extremely warm (not hot enough to burn) is this common when doing a 3D carve?
My other stepper motors, and router are barely warm.

Thanks
Mike

They can get pretty spicy on long carves.

The typical temp range is up to about 180F, above that is indicative of an issue. The stepper motor is dissipating about 50 watts as it works so it’s basically a heater.

Well I have the back side to do and I have a laser thermometer, will check it out.

Thanks
