A Lesson Learned, Z-Axis Stepper Motor Issue

I had a good learning experience today and I thought I’d share with the class.

While working on a project I started having consistent Z-axis closed loop stepper motor errors. They easily cleared and re-homing wasn’t a problem.

I noticed that the Z axis wasn’t lowering past a certain point on a multi-pass cut.

We had enough work cut that we finished the piece we were working on manually, and just as I walked past the machine at the end of the day I noticed that the Suck It SM dust boot had gotten moved and was interfering with the Z-axis. It’s secured quite snugly, but we must have bumped it at one point.

Easy to fix, took a bit of time to find.

I hope this helps someone else in the future.

Cheers.
