Does anyone else's dust boot sm touch the z assembly?

My dust boot sm is tightened down but rubs on the z axis frame. When I line up the bottom of the boot to the frame, there’s no clearance. I can’t fit a thin sheet of paper through there. It rubs and is leaving marks. This can’t be good long term, no?

I had it happen to me, but I found that when I installed the z slider, I got interrupted and when I came back a had forgotten to install the top two bolts and the spindle was leaning forward and that was why my SM dust boot was hitting on the z. Assuming you did not do that also, check to see that the screws are tight and it is not leaning forward for some other reason.

Mine misses by 0.025 “ measured with a feeler gauge

Is the dust boot supposed to have top bolts? I only have the 1 thumbscrew with mine.

no I meant the z slider. the mount for the Spindle. it has 4 bolts and i neglected to install the top two. when I corrected that the dust boot no longer hit.

Oh yeah. I just checked my entire Z assembly and it looks like everything’s tight. I’m guessing my boot or z assembly is just a little out of spec if others are only seeing a .025" gap.

The clearance is definitely very small. One thing to watch out for is the top dust shoe attachment being/remaining perpendicular to the spindle body.

With heavy unsupported dust hoses - not suggesting this is the case with any users - it may push the bottom back of the dust shoe closer to the Z assembly bottom bracket. This would be magnified with 4" dust extraction systems and situations where the dust shoe is clamped very low on the spindle body (not engaged as much on the 80 mm portion).
