Any experience with DuraGuard for outside signage?

I am looking to use:

https://www.roseburg.com/softwood-plywood/mdo/duragard-premium-mdo/

to create an outdoor sign. It will be relief carved with .2" high letters.

Any thoughts or recommendations? I am open to other materials.

Maybe just me but using fall-apart-icle board for outdoor might not be a great idea

Product documentation says it is OK for outside applications. If it were regular MDF, heck no!

Actually I believe it is external plywood, with a layer of hardwood, and finally a of external resin. They claim that exterior signs is an “encouraged” way of using the product.

If not this material then what?

MDO plywood is what sign companies use for outdoor signs. DuraGuard information says it is MDO plywood.

I just did a test V carve in MDO last night. Outside perimeter cuts great with a down cut bit but V carving with a 60 degree bit leaves significant fuzz on the paper top layer as I was expecting.

40 IPM and I played with the speed from #1 to #5 and didn’t not notice much difference in fuzziness. I had painted the top surface prior to carving but doubt that caused fuzzing.

I will keep playing around with MDO to try to find a good recipe.

In the mean time, does anyone know if any manufacturers make a shear cut V bit? Also, does anyone have a source for 1/4” shank bits with a 2” flute length?

Regards
