Cnc Table Hindsight 20/20

No I do not. I guess I may have to venture into one someday. Great job and keep up the wonderful creativity! Put them on Etsy and I will be your first customer
Dave

Could you share the file for those who can 3d print them? Better than several I have seen.

I would like to just receive my CNC ordered it in February and still haven’t gotten it yet

@Dustydave - I posted mine on Thingiverse if you are interested - I can print some for you if you want; though they might not be as ‘sexy’ as @rockytoptim’s

I can post mine later today 8 or 9 pm Eastern time. I was out off town over the weekend.

Rocky. I would like to have them, as well. I have 2 folks that have the ender printers and one is very adept at using it, the other a beginner. They are willing to trade some prints for some time on my woodworker.
my table is 49 D x 69 W with 3/4" pine trim surrounding it. I set it up motors in front and on the right side of the table, which gives me enough room to expand to the Journeyman when it arrives later this year. 80mm spindle, laser, and some Jenny’s already ordered. Plan to be able to do custom cornhole with laser graphics and/or epoxy inlays for close friends, as well as, many other projects for fun.

I just posted the 3D printer file on thingiverse. I only used supports on the bottom of the circle. I did have to do some light sanding on the bottom of the circle where the supports were to get it to fit into the mating onefinity hole. I have only printed these in ASA so adjustments may need to be made if printed in another material.

I ordered the same monitor stand as rockytoptim. I can confirm that it works very well. It’s very rigid when tightened down but offers a lot of flexibility in positioning. It has a nice solid clamping system. I got it on sale for 50% off. I also ordered the thicker monitor mount from the same page for an extra $12. You will definitely need that if your monitor comes with the magnet mount glued on and you don’t want to remove it. So right around $32. Seems like a pretty good deal.

Thanks for the tip!

How about those end caps? I see one file for one of the holes on another model but they’re different sizes aren’t they?

I can post file on thingiverse for the caps tha go into the x and y rails. There is actual three types. The ones on the y rails where the stepper motors are have a clipped circle to clear the stepper motor.

Here is the link to the end cap files on Thingiverse. There are 3 files. The one with the clipped bottom goes on the y rails where the stepper motors are at the rear of the machine.

Thanks. These will be be great!

A question for all of you…would you use MDF as your cnc base or something different? I know most people like it for flatness but not much else. I plan on using threaded inserts to start and I worry about using MDF as a base instead I plan on using MDF for just the wasteboard. Your thoughts?

I had the same concern about threaded inserts so I went with T-nuts instead in my wasteboard.

My table top is a MDF torsion box but my table structure is 2x4 lumber. I used some 6" lag screws to go straight through the torsion box and into the 2x4 underneath.

Thanks, that’s awesome!

I think MDF makes a fine wasteboard but I agree with Nick, definitely use T-nuts instead of threaded inserts. I used threaded inserts on a wasteboard before and had some pull out and some come unthreaded when they bound with the screw a little. And once you strip out the MDF there’s not much you can do about it.

I used threaded inserts to hold my waste board down to the desktop. Some did strip, but a little CA glue fixed the problem

I have a small garage shop and still like to park my car in there. So all my equipment has to be on wheels and collapsable. Thus I build a folding CNC table.

@Hobbes443 any chance you have plans you can share for that? Or any additional photos? I built a flip table but already want to make it better, and yours is definitely better.

@nathanskidmore I had started to draft this in Fusion 360, but not sure I ever finished. I’ll check when I get the chance. I’m not the best at following plans! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

This video clip is the start of a small video to show off this table and its features. I do plan to post that video on the forums. I’ll tag you when I do. It’s not perfect, but I’m super happy with it.
