When I bought my Onefinity Elite, I went with the qcw secured from underneath. It seemed it would be easier to prop up on blocks for a change out. This looked easy enough in the instructional video,vs having to dill out the holes on top of the waste board for securing. I now need to change my waste board and the reality is this ain’t gonna be easy at all. With everything I have on the machine, from the Masso to the 80mm spindle, water cooling lines, stiffy bar and dust collection, this machine is far too heavy and cumbersome to simply tilt back and prop on blocks as is. It seems to me I’ll have to partially disassemble the machine to change out my spoil board. The machine sits on a custom built table with no access under the table to the machines underside. Can someone relate their experience in doing something similar. Right now I would be inclined to switch this securing method.
I have the secure from above. My suggestion to you is move the X axis all the way to the limit (home position), and tilt the rear up to access the screws from below the waste board. Minimise the weight on the end you want to raise. You can send the X axis all the way to the limit on the other end to tilt the QCW up and access the screws on the front side. Give it a try. I have done the same process when I raised my machine. I have the stiffy, 2.2 spindle, water lines, and my Masso is mounted separately to a VESA monitor mount to avoid vibrations while running.
You don’t mention what blocks you are using: I highly recommend the factory supplied ones that are custom fitted to the rails.
If you have a “Stiffy”, the whole works may still be top-heavy enough to be unstable in the raised position. Here’s a picture of a jig that I made from scrap that holds the tilted-up unit in a stable position. The “Stiffy” drops into the cutout.
Yea I have, and, would be using the factory supplied plastic blocks. Your custom made block looks interesting though. I may have to go with something like that in the short term, but ultimately I would like to simplify this.
