Easy ATC Sensor Error

I am hoping I can get some help sorting out an issue with an ATC Sensor error.

Specific Problem: When my machine is attempting to load a bit from the #2 slot in the ATC tool holder, the tool appears to be loading correctly but I nevertheless get a “ATC Sensor (Load): Failed to Load Collet” error message, which obviously cancels the machining operation underway.

Background:

I am running a Gen 2 Foreman/ Redline controller and 80mm spindle delivered in March. Because I am new to CNC I took the community advice and ran the machine for a few months using manual tool changes only. I recently installed the ATC module, and got through the setup wizard without any issues. That was followed by a round of 15-20+ successful load/unload/swap operations from the various tool positions. Then on my first actual project using the ATC, the machine got to the 3rd tool change of the file (the bit in slot #2), and I got this Load error message. And since that point I have consistently gotten this error message when loading tools from slot #2 where the other slots are loading without error message. Moreover, in every instance it appears that the collet nut gets loaded correctly from slot #2 despite the sensor error.

What should I be doing to sort this out?

Look at the LED indicator and make sure it’s on/off when it is supposed to be. i.e. it likely is Not seeing the bit clear the ATC so it thinks it’s stuck somewhere inside the ATC.

Thanks for the reply. I ran the configuration wizard some more and played with different heights (+/- ~1- 3 mm) on the screen for where to place the collet nut flush with the top of the cup. I am now at an intermittent state of functionality on that single tool position. That is better that fully INOP, but it would be great to have all 4 tool slots working on my machine.

I have attempted to ascertain the nature of this malfunction by observing the LED. However, I haven’t found much information on how the IR sensors in the cups play their role in the tool-loading procedure.

Another question. Do most people select the 3rd strike option on tool load?
