Hello all. I made my first cut. Nothing serious just trying it out. The bit has left a lot of lines and even missed a line or two it looks like. I cut 3 animals in a piece of 3/4 inch red oak I had laying around. Roughed it in with an IDC 1/4” down cut end mill and finished with an 1/8” end mill. Maybe wrong bit choice or step over too large? Step over was .050 for the 1/8” bit. Also cut the raster at 45 degrees. I also don’t think my board was totally flat.
For 3D carving, finishing with a ball nose bit works better. If you are doing a pocket cut, try doing your raster at 90 degrees (perpendicular) to the grain.
Definitely want to finish with a ball end mill. But it looks like your machine might need to be trammed? The ridge lines seem to only be one side of the cut?

I’m with @cyberreefguru on the tram issue, looking at your 1/4” cut it looks like you have the lines in that pass too.
