Kevin, great idea to teach your two young kids on how to make things. My sole purpose for buying my Onefinity CNC is to use it with my grand babies on small projects and explore what it takes to complete their projects from the beginning to the end.
Hi all. Chris here from Ottawa, ON. I have been on the fence for about 2 years to purchase a CNC. I just about had it narrowed down to a Shapeoko or an Open Builds. Then I heard about the OneFinity started searching again. I saw Ben Myer’s very public “break up with Shapeoko” and my mind was made up. Thanks Ben. I got in on the 2nd pre-order but now have to wait until December. I haven’t been this excited for Christmas to arrive since I was a kid. As I am a complete newby to CNC, i have been watching lots and lots of videos on YouTube on everything from bits to tables to software. Big shout out to all of you who have shared videos and insights.
Chris
Hello everyone, I’m Mike, great to join the OF family. I’m a disabled Navy veteran (got out in 98) and have worked in the digital radiology/IT field since leaving the military.
I’m a weekend woodworking hobbyist but also work with acrylics for my aquariums making filters and parts as I need them. I have a 3D printer and laser engraver/cutter so I wanted to add a CNC to my garage shop. I almost pulled the trigger on a Shapeoko after seeing some of Ben Myers videos and then I ran across his “breakup video”…thank Ben, it was very funny and it helped me find OF (didn’t know the machine existed). After reading up on the OF, it had the features I wanted and it appeared not to have some/most of the issues that caused problems in the older CNC designs. For a weekend hobbyist, I felt it was the best machine for me. I placed my order, now I’m waiting for December for my delivery.
I’ve been learning a lot from reading through the forums and want to thank everyone for posting really helpful information.
Mike
@xnavyguy Thank you for your service and welcome to the team! I’m patiently waiting until December too.
Thanks Allen. I’m feeling like a kid before Christmas…I can’t wait to get the OF but December feels like it’s years away…lol… I’m going to start working on a table solution for it this weekend. Get everything ready to go.
Great to have you Mike, you’ll find this is a great group (very supportive and respectful) which are key to a great community.
I echo what Allen said, Thank you very much for your Service!
Cheers,
-Alex
Welcome Mike, cold war Navy vet myself (77-83). I am expecting mine in November.
@xnavyguy I feel the same way! I’ve been spending some time learning Carbide Create (free for anyone to use) to learn how to set up projects and such. The software and workflow side is definitely the big unknown for me, even though I have 3d printing experience. Cheers!
Having done both I can tell you there is a little crossover but not much. Broad concepts like X, Y, and Z-axis crossover but most everything else in the workflow is different due to the cnc router being a removitave process.
I’m Andy, a 70 year old retiree with some time on his hands. Although I’m a newbie when it comes to CNC, I do have some experience with woodworking. I learned about the OneFinity by watching Ben Myers on his YouTube channel and purchased mine on the day ordering went live. My unit will be delivered sometimes this month (October 2020).
I’m looking forward to learning how to use the machine and so have been eagerly reading all the forum posts. I’ve purchased the Vectric Pro software and have been taking the tutorials. I’m very interested in CNC joinery and also 3D carving. It is refreshing to see all the valuable and helpful posts on this forum and to see the growing community of users. There’s no doubt I made the right choice to purchase this CNC machine and I’m excited to get started.
Welcome to the forum Andy… your woodworking experience will certainly be appreciated here.

Hello from KY,
Order #11313…
Cant Wait!
Hi, I am Dave and am almost 79. I loved my job as a computer programmer. My job was eliminated in 2009.
The pandemic struck this year and I ordered a book on CNC. I read it and searched you tube for more info. I finally came across Mark Lindsay who has produced over 50 tutorial sessions using Vectric software. Everything I know about CNC I learned from Mark and Vectric. Looking forward to getting my OF in December. Order#11042
Well now, with today’s intros I’m not feeling so old.
Welcome to you both.
Welcome Dave I’m an IT guy also. The past year I have learned so much and still have more to learn.
Thank you for the Welcome. Hope we talk again. I am from Wisconsin.
Good morning everyone. My name is Grant Davis and I am 56 yrs old and live in Westerville, Ohio. I have had my first CNC for almost 2 years. It’s a GarageworX 1824 and has served me very well. I started out making small desk name plaques as gifts for co-workers and it has morphed into making bigger things for paying customers. I’m now looking to upsize my machine soon and the Onefinity has really peaked my interest.
I’ve been woodworking for almost 50 years as a hobbyist and have a decent collection of tools in my 2 car garage/shop. 3 years ago, I had to have another back surgery and while laid up I bought Vectric VCarve Pro and started learning the software. It as another year before I got my CNC so I had plenty of designs ready to start carving when my machine was ready to make chips. Its been a fun ride and I’m looking forward to expanding my offerings and having more options with a bigger machine.
Welcome to the forum Grant!
I’ve had a few posts on the forum so I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Chris Buerck and I’m from southeast Missouri. I am a Civil Engineer by training and a woodworker by heritage. I grew up watching my dad build things in his shop but never really appreciated the craft until I was older. I’ve built cabinets for family and for my own bathroom and kitchen remodels. I’ve got a lot of tools now but I started small and built up my shop as I went. I consider myself a woodworker but not a craftsman and I definitely know the difference between the two.
I started seriously looking into CNC about a year ago because it mixed my CAD and design background as an engineer with woodworking. What could be better than that? Once I saw the Onefinity I knew that was the machine for me. I was lucky enough to be one of the first pre-orders so I’ve had my machine since mid September. There’s definitely been a learning curve but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. Now my only problem is finding time to complete all the projects people are coming up with and staying on top of my paying job.
The forum is great and there a lot of helpful posts. I’ll try to contribute when I can. The team at Onefinity has also been great. I’m 100% satisfied with my decision and I think my wife has come around too.
