So…anyone out there using FreeCAD with their BB 1F? (We noticed they are on 1.0.2, which is a big change from when we last looked them over.) If so, how is your satisfaction with the post processor? Doing some poking around on these boards (slick format…it’ll take some getting used to), I’m sure we’ll upgrade our BB to 1.x sooner than later.
It’s been a good bit, and life has kept wife and me distracted from our BB 1F (last time we were active, the reliable BB was 1.0.9…).
The Windows 10 end-of-life has us contemplating our 2x upgraded (once, for more money) Vectric Aspire 12.5 software.
Suffice it to say that neither Apple nor Windows impress us with their (lack of) respect for our privacy these days (to put it *mildly*), so we’re in the process of switching to Linux.
(This whole situation is kind of comical. The reason we even have a Win 10 machine is to run Aspire for our 1F–we had otherwise given up on Windows back in the aughts.)
Thanks in advance for any FreeCAD advice or related anecdotes you have…we’re big fans of not trying to re-invent the wheel.
FreeCAD has such a darn steep learning curve. I have the Linux version installed but use it very little. Very little…
Solid Edge Community 2024, Fusion, and VCarve+Aspire have me keeping a Windoze box or two. I fought trying to get Wine set up on my main computer(Debian), but gave up for now because it isn’t worth the fight just to run some Windows stuff on my Linux boxen. My main machine is quad-boot and is pretty powerful, so I just reboot into whatever OS I need. Contemplating loading up Windoze in a VM on my server so I don’t have to reboot to switch, but that might not happen.

I am using FreeCad a lot for my 3D printing projects. Generally, I like it a lot. Still have not used it for CNC projects, but I am planning to. The version 1.0 was a big step in the right direction, the sketcher is much better now. They also mostly addressed the issue with element naming which was a big pain.

That’s great news.
I’m actually enthusiastic about replacing Aspire and SketchList 3D, both…and as we get in to 3D Printing, I was wondering what software to use. Problem solved, now…
Just an example of the battery I designed in FreeCad. It is very capable.
