Help needed drilling holes

I need some advice on drilling holes. New to CNC. Trying to drill 1/4" holes. But finding that using a 1/4" compression bit and peck drilling tool path is getting very hot. Any suggestion to do this job better. Any settings I could change? Or is it best to use a smaller bit and area clearance tool path. Thanks for your help!

You can use a regular 1/4" drill bit.
You can also use a 1/8" router bit and choose “pocket” to clear out the hole. Make sure to use multiple depth passes.

IDC woodcraft makes cnc drill bits that I hear work perfectly for this application. Drills – IDC Woodcraft

Thanks Gerry and Robert. I took a look at IDC. I ordered the drill bits and let the group know what I think of them.

Compression bits are not recommended for drilling holes. They just jam the chips into the wood and get real hot real fast. It’s a recipe for disaster.
Drill bit is a decent option. Keep the RPMs as low as you can without the spindle bogging.
Using a “bore” toolpath with an endmill smaller than the hole is also a good option.

Thanks Mike

This is great info for those of us who are new cnc users.

I also just received your extension and hope to install this weekend. Very nice build!

And use a Spiral cutting path (VCarve) to ensure precision.
