Help with tool paths

3D carving update.

I changed my toolpath strategy, I have done quite a bit of research and video watching.

It seems to me (for my current project) that “Rest Machining” does more harm than good.

I first started looking at rest machining as a way to reduce my 3D carve times.

I have also adjusted my “jerk” settings to 7000 (up from default 1000), as another way to reduce my carve times.

Here are a couple of pictures to show the difference.

Yes it is different wood (new one is cherry, ole one is Teak) but the carve quality is quite good.

Here is another example.

I would say that rest machining isn’t always the best strategy for 3D carving.

The one other thing I learned was to break up big carves into smaller manageable bites.

I did this by creating several vectors and setting a toolpath for each vector.

I am hoping that I can learn to shut down my machine between toolpaths.

I have some instructions (from this group), it has to do with recording my XY zero and using MIDI commands to set my zero after startup.

NOT re-homing.

Always learning.

This group is great for giving advice and instruction.

Thanks to you all

Looks great, Mike!

And we’re all learning every carve. And if you’re like me, occasionally re-learning when I rush thru the process :joy:
