How stable is the Redline controller at this point?

Have any of the old showcase carves been run on the redline controller?

EP 12 Onefinity CNC - Inlay Cutting Board

EP 14 Onefinity CNC - Simple 3 Part Mallet

EP.34 Onefinity Projects - Giant Oreo Stash Box

EP.33 Onefinity Projects - Big Ol’ Tray

Well i haven’t been able to cut anything correctly on it. It keeps loosing steps. So it sits. Feel free to read the post on it.

I haven’t done theirs but I did one to check the precision myself. Perfect fit.

It looks great what options did you get.

I have the summer Redline Elite Foreman package. It came with the Redline spindle, controller & HMI, touch probe, tool setter and suckit dust boot. I used a 30 degree 3 flute V-bit and a 3/16” downcut bit for clearance. I used Vectric VCarve Pro v12.05 and entered the settings manually into the V carve toolpath operation. I’m doing one that’s a larger size (18x12) but I’m going to use the new (in version 12 of VCarve) V-Carve Inlay operation to see how that comes out.

I usually do a test in MDF when I’m messing with new toolpathing options and then cut the real boards. That makes sure I get it right before blowing an end grain cutting board (there’s three and a half board feet of wood in each and at the prices wood is running, I prefer chewing up some MDF first if I’m doing something new).

All of your 3D carves are fantastic.

From a finishing perspective, how do you smooth them out after you’re done carving without killing the detail? Or are they that clean right of the machine.

Again, beautiful work.

This is completely off topic, but since I love Cabot cheddar your picture made me want to say if you’re anywhere near Cabot, Vermont or surrounding towns (Walden, Hardwick, Danville, etc.) you can usually find their 5 year cheese in the local markets, which if you enjoy sharp cheddar is mind blowing, if you drive into Hardwick to their new Cabot store you can also find their 10 year which is just on a whole other level. (Including the shock when the credit card bill comes in after a visit, but hey, you only come this way once)

FWIW, for anyone not in the region who loves sharp cheddar, you can order it from creamery’s website too. I’ll leave it as an exercise to the discerning student to find the URL, because this post is starting to look like I’m a Cabot creamery social media shill, LOL.

I made cheese for over 20yrs. Luv me some cheddar too. Used to make a cheddar mozz twist and other stuff. Granted there wasnt a whole lot of cheddar in it though. Still good stuff…

If you have time you could run an air cut and check your axis’s for loss. X and y are fairly easy to mark zero but z you need at least a nice block of wood to zero off. Run the file. Send to zero and check with the same block of wood.

Another good one is their Jasper Cave that is only available annually at their store in the VT building at the Big E

that’s what they look like after the finishing pass minus the clear coat

Could also run my file I gave tech support that showed the error on their machine after testing your own file.

What type of bit are you using in the finish pass? Your results are far cleaner than I would have expected. I do want to play with 3D carving like that but figured there would be at least some post processing, so color me impressed.

Thanks for the suggestion! I travel through MA on the way to VT regularly, but I’m going to check at the store in Hardwick to see if they have that available. I like folks well enough, but crowds like at the BIG-E are tough.

Thanks for the response. I’ve been using his bits in a router on my Maslow and with a Shaper Origin for a couple of years and they are truly fantastic.

I’m sure most folks know, but if you’re curious about the Jenny bits: https://www.cadencemfgdesign.com
