Scenario: broken bit. Stop job. Replace bit with same. HOME machine, including a trip to the tool setter.
Results: Spindle spins up and smashes bit into tool setter. $28 wasted right out of the box.
Theory: Masso doesn’t know I replaced the bit, even though I homed it. I’ll bet a buck that once I restarted the job, it dipped into its offset list and overrode my home operation. The other scenario that’s happened is the milling is in air over the material. I don’t use the masso tool database, but it uses it implicitly.
Theory: I have to be vigilant and manually zero the bit after homing it unless the next job requires another bit.
Sound right? Is there an easier way? Maybe a shortcut to “select tool # 99” or some nonsense to force it to change bits and use the tool setter again? Actually that wouldn’t work because it’s physically a different bit installed at a different height.
